She’s caught in the half-second before something happens. Her fingertips rest at the corner of her eye, maybe to fix a lash, maybe to stop a tear, maybe just to hold herself still while she decides. Study in Pink lives in that pause, the private moment between thought and movement that nobody else usually sees.
Her face is built in washes of blush, rose and cream, softly scratched and layered like skin that has been touched by weather and time. A single clear green eye holds your gaze, while her red lips sit just at the edge of the frame. Along the right side, her hair rises off the panel in deeply combed plaster ridges, the most sculptural element of the piece and a striking contrast to the softness of her face.
At this scale, Study in Pink is an intimate piece for a mantel, vanity, bedside wall or gallery grouping, a quiet portrait meant to be seen up close.
Plaster knit and pastels on wood panel. One of a kind.
