Ms. Peaches Declines
She heard the offer. She considered it, briefly, from beneath the brim of her hat. And then she closed her eyes, crossed her arms, and said no, with red lips, a perfect collar and not one hair out of place. Ms. Peaches doesn’t explain herself. She doesn’t need to.
Her peach coat is troweled plaster, smooth as suede and outlined in raised plaster lines that trace its high collar, pleats and folded arms like stitching. The wide hat tilts low against a weathered gray ground. Lean in and you’ll see her face drawn in pastel, mint and lavender shadows, a flush of rose, and a necklace of square green stones at her throat, the one bright note she allowed herself.
Tall and confident, she’s made for an entryway, a dressing room, or any wall that could use a woman who knows exactly what she wants and what she doesn’t.
